The consulting work has been going well.  We are currently in the midst of our first fundraiser.  We have mailed 3,000 pieces and will be following up with potential donors this week.

This year my New Year’s Resolution was to be in the moment when I am in a moment by not thinking about everything else I could or should be doing.  Since I am working at home, I am finding that it is a bit of a struggle to manage when I should be working and when I should be just a mommy.  Also, I am having trouble remembering that I need to take a least 1 day a week off from work.

So, this week my goal is to find a work schedule that will work for my family and me.  Since school is back in session, I am working while the children are in preschool.  Also, I have set the alarm clock early to have time in the morning before the rest of the house wakes up.

This makes for a 6 hour work day rather than an 8 hour workday.  I will have to be as productive in those 6 hours as I would be in 8 hours.  I think I can do this by focusing on what I am working on rather than thinking about what to cook for dinner or thinking I should be playing with my children.

Hopefully, setting these boundaries by adjusting my schedule will help me be in the moment whether it is work time, mommy time, or me time.

Up Before the Birds

For the past 2 weeks, I have wanted to get up early in the morning to have time to work either on consulting business or housework before the children wake up.  “Wanted” had been the keyword.  I thought about getting up early.  I even set the alarm for 5:00 am a couple of times.  When the alarm would go off in the morning, I would usually talk myself out of getting up early.  Honestly, how hard is it to convince yourself to go back to sleep for another hour and a half rather than getting up to mop the kitchen or work on project plans?!!

So, last night, I decided I was going to get up early no matter what this morning.  I set the alarm for 4:00 am (yes, that is 4:00 in the morning) and I actually did it!  I got up at 4:00 in the morning.  The birds were not even chirpping in our backyard yet.  I got so much accomplished.  I was able to get done in 2 1/2 hours the same amount of work that it would take 5 or 6 hours to do while BusyBoy and GigglyGirl are awake.

I plan to get up early again tomorrow as well.  It is nice to accomplish things before the children, the neighborhood, and even the birds wake up it the morning.
