For several years of my childhood, I went trick or treating with my friend Stephanie. Sometimes we would start in my neighborhood and then end in her neighborhood. One of her neighbors always made homemade Popcorn Balls for the children she knew. These Popcorn Balls are one of my favorite Halloween treats and bring back lots of memories.
Ingredients
¼ – 1/3 cup of canola oil
1 ½ tablespoons butter
½ – ¾ cup of uncooked popping corn
½ cup corn syrup
½ cup sugar
½ teaspoon salt
Directions
Mix the corn syrup, sugar, and salt, set aside.
Heat oil and butter in a large pot until thoroughly heated, about 4 minutes.
Add popping corn.
Cover the pot.
Over high heat, shake pot as the corn pops until the popping subsides.
Turn heat to medium and add the sugar mixture.
Stir the sugar mixture and the pop corn around until the sugar melts, about 5 minutes.
Remove from heat.
Spray hands with cooking spray.
Gently form popcorn into balls with sprayed hands.
Store each ball individually in plastic wrap, tied with a ribbon.
